Biography:
Professor Braun is a dermatologist specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the skin. He is the director of the skin cancer prevention program at the Department of Dermatology of the University Hospital Zürich and the vice director of the skin cancer center Zürich. Although, providing the best care possible for patients is his primary objective, he remains committed to education and research. Professor Braun’s belief is that improved efforts in educating physicians and the public regarding the importance of early skin cancer detection will translate into lives saved. His clinical research has led to the publication of numerous peer reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and books on topics related to skin cancer with an emphasis on melanoma, acquired melanocytic nevi, congenital melanocytic nevi and seborrheic keratoses. The focus of much of his research is on early recognition of skin cancer by utilizing imaging instruments such as photography, dermoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy. He continuously explores the importance and significance of the clinical and dermoscopic morphology of cutaneous lesions. Although his research efforts are primarily focused on discovering ways to improve clinician diagnostic accuracy, he remains engaged in research aimed at deciphering the natural biology of nevi and melanoma with a particular interest in nevogenesis and melanomagenesis. Professor Braun frequently lectures on all of the aforementioned topics both nationally and internationally.
